Dear friends,
I have been silent for a while; here’s why.
A few months ago, alongside my latest releases, I decided that I wanted to bring this music live. I’ve performed in the past with various collectives and bands, but for a while now I’ve been focusing on DJ sets and productions. So I did what I often like to do in these cases: I picked up my phone and asked for advice.
Entering the world of modular synthesizers
With the help of my dear friend Vinx Scorza, I decided to set up a new modular synthesizer rig. So there I was, preparing a new live show and entering the world of modular synthesizers.
Almost at the same time, I joined Bologna Modulare. Yes, I live in Paris, but I’m still deeply connected to Bologna, and the prospect of joining a vibrant community of modular enthusiasts was quite appealing (and it didn’t disappoint at all).
Then it’s a whole new rabbit hole: discussions, soldering, DIY, trading modules to find the right rig for the performance. Learning a lot of new stuff every day.
Barcelona, 19 November
Sometimes dreams come true sooner than expected, especially when you have such beautiful friends as Dos Caps. On the 19th of November I’ll be playing the modular rig live for the first time, in Barcelona.
It’s a “dos caps de nit”: their evening edition, with more music and more dancing. And this time they want to go one step further and pair each live modular set with a visual artist, so that sound and image get built together, on the spot.
Conflitto e cura
Last but not least, a new video. Every year CHEAP, the street poster art project from Bologna, launches a call for posters on a theme, and the best ones end up pasted on the city’s walls. This year’s theme was conflitto e cura: conflict and care.
Undervilla made the video presenting the selected posters, and I made the music for it.
A heavy theme for heavy times, and yet the posters that came out of it are anything but defeated. While the planet burns and warmongers sit in power, radical imagination keeps producing visions of possible futures. Nobody has given up yet. Being the soundtrack to that, even for a couple of minutes, felt like exactly the right place to be.
That’s all for now. Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts, send news or just say hi: this isn’t marketing, it’s a way to stay in touch outside of the social noise and overload.
Thanks for your support and thanks for being here!
Your Humble Servant of Noise,
Francesco Papaleo
