Ho sentito un enorme calore invadere tutto il mio corpo. / Un fuoco che bruciava tutto il mio essere. / La sensazione di essere divenuto malato a metà mista alla paura di non potermi più muovere, più danzare, mi hanno lasciato lì abbandonato a me stesso, solo, senza speranza, senza vita, immobile. / Dovete danzare in altro modo, più dolcemente mi hanno detto, mentre morivo sulla sedia. / Non ascoltavo più, obbedivo come un cane a cui hanno fatto del male. / Il dolore è assorbito come spugna dal mio corpo, non esiste modo di liberarsene, di fare in modo di vomitarlo. / Mi piacerebbe poter danzare senza soffrire. / Confesso di aver ucciso me stesso e da qui inizierà a rifiorire in me l’idea di bellezza del corpo, malgrado l’imperfezione, malgrado la repulsione, malgrado tutto.

Confesso di aver ucciso me stesso — studio per un trio attraversando me is a choreography by Antonio Montanile, for which I created and performed the electroacoustic music live: microphones placed on stage and on Antonio’s body captured the sounds of the performance, which I processed in real time with effects and manipulations of every sort in Ableton Live. Nothing was pre-recorded — everything happened on stage, as it unfolded.
The piece was one of the eight finalist studies of the Premio Equilibrio Roma 2010 for contemporary dance (third edition of the prize), hosted by the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome during the sixth edition of Equilibrio — Festival della Nuova Danza. Open to emerging artists working in Italy, the prize invited original projects destined to evolve into full dance productions; the finalists presented their studies to the public and an international jury, with the winner receiving a production grant and an invitation to the 2011 festival. We performed at the Teatro Studio on the 6th of February 2010.

About Antonio Montanile
Trained at the Accademia Isola Danza of the Venice Biennale, Antonio Montanile became an interpreter for Carolyn Carlson in Parabola (1999), Light Bringers — Araba Fenice (2000) and J. Beuys Song (2001). He went on to dance for Compagnia Abbondanza-Bertoni and for Compagnia Caterina Sagna in Relazione Pubblica (2002), Heil Tanz (2004), Basso Ostinato (2006), P.O.M.P.E.I. (2008) and Sorelline.
As a choreographer he authored Quduò (2001), Punto con fondo — a piece for five dancers (2002) — and Niedich (2003), produced largely by the Venice Biennale and presented at international festivals including Roma Europa, Danse à Lille, Julidans Amsterdam, Tangente Montréal, Printemps de la danse (Tunisia), TanecPraha, Kanuti Gildi Saal (Tallinn) and Tel-Aviv Dance. In 2007 he began the research Un fascio di nervi, presented in Belgium at the Summer Studios Showing, the festival Les Dimanches de la Danse aux Halles de Schaerbeek and De Pianofabriek in Brussels, and selected for Fabbrica Europa’s “Moving” project in Italy.
